Good Masters! Sweet Ladies! Class Summary 3/23/15

3/25/2015

Homework Assignment

Picture
Good Masters and Sweet Ladies, we are now on our journey to performance!  All students have chosen and been assigned their first monologue. We spent time in class introducing some drama warm-up exercises to practice projection and enunciation and then students broke into pairs to work on developing the first few lines or stanzas of their piece.

We specifically worked on developing the characters - what is the character's personality and physical appearance? How would they stand, gesture, sit, walk, and speak? Each student had an opportunity to perform the first few lines of their monologue at the end of class to illustrate their interpretation and ideas.

For homework this week (please read carefully - there are many items and we have much to do!):
  • Begin memorizing your monologue!  Take one stanza or paragraph at a time and work on it until you have it completely memorized. Practice your piece standing up, in front of a mirror, and in front of family members.
  • Don't forget to do some warm-ups to get your facial muscles moving!  Practice clear articulation of your words and projecting your voice.  HERE are the warm-ups we did in class.
  • Continue to think about the physical appearance and mannerisms of your character and how to bring your character to life in performance. Start working on the Monologue Character Analysis - these will be due to me on 4/6 via email the week we are on break.
  • Please email me the following set information if you have not done so already: 1) dimensions for your piece of the set and 2) a list of needed supplies. We will begin working on the backdrop together in class next week.
  • Read the information about Independent Projects and think about what you would like to do - we will discuss in class next week.
  • Finish reading Catherine Called Birdy - we will discuss next week and begin our second novel, Crispin: The Cross of Lead.
