Literature Summary 1/21/2013

We wrapped up our unit on The Whipping Boy in class this week with a round-table discussion of the second half of the book.  Students worked for about half the period on completing their sections of the Whipping Boy Castle artwork.  We decided it would be fitting to decorate the castle exterior in a variety of intermingled colors - much like a mosaic!  Next week we will mount the completed castle on poster board and display it in the classroom.

Once Upon a Time...

During the second half of the class, we all engaged in some good, silly storytelling fun!  Students were asked to think of three distinct settings that could be the basis for a story.  Then, we broke out the Story Cube dice and proceeded to collectively craft several impromptu tales, linking together the characters, plot, etc. based on the images on the cubes.  If you are not familiar with Story Cubes, check them out HERE - they are a great way to get the creative juices flowing!

Our Last Book!

Students should read Emil's Pranks this week in preparation for our final class.  We will conclude our journey in Literature next week with a discussion of Emil's adventures and an fun end-of-semester project.
