Mosaic Freeschool is a homeschool support group that offers families the flexibility of a one day per week drop-off program where parents are not required to facilitate a class. We are not a homeschool co-operative. Please read the following carefully.
Student Evaluation Students are evaluated as individuals. Acceptance of a student does not constitute acceptance of another family member. All prospective students and at least one parent are required to visit for one full day during the semester and/or arrange an interview with the director prior to the start of any regular fifteen-week semester.
Mosaic Classroom Experience We strive to build a community of like-minded learners that can easily and comfortably engage with one another in a small group setting. Students interact closely with each other, frequently participate in group discussions, and are expected to possess a certain level of independence appropriate for their age.
Instructional Philosophy Most regular (non-enrichment) classes are ninety-minutes in length, however, classes are not lecture driven. The role of the facilitator is to present information and ideas in a manner that inspires each student to want to know more about a given subject. Most classes are project-based and provide hands-on opportunities to explore different topics at a deeper level, increasing understanding and elevating students' awareness of the world around them.
Policy and Guidelines Before requesting a day visit or interview, please read our Policy and Guidelines for Families and Students found on the Forms tab of our web-site. By enrolling in any Mosaic Freeschool class you agree to be bound by our policy and guidelines.
Code of Conduct Our Code of Conduct simply states that all students are expected to be respectful of their facilitators and fellow students at all times. Repeated disruptions or refusal to follow instructions may be cause for dismissal. In addition, students should not miss more than two classes per semester unless prior arrangements are made with the class facilitator. By enrolling in any Mosaic Freeschool class you agree to be bound by our Code of Conduct.
Consensus After the day visit and/or interview with the director the student may request enrollment in our program. As part of our consensus process, facilitators will meet to discuss extending an invitation. Mosaic Freeschool reserves the right to grant admission only to students, who in our sole judgment, are compatible with our independent homeschool enrichment program.
