This class is designed to foster a love of books and promote lively discussion. Students will read three novels over the course of the 12 week semester. They'll share their ideas about characters, plot, setting, and themes through guided discussions and writing prompts. Our time together in class will be spent engaging in debates, games, fun exercises, and projects as we uncover the foundations of literary analysis.
Students may read the book independently, as a read-aloud with a caregiver, or listen to an audiobook. Weekly required reading will be approximately 50-75 pages.
Students will need to obtain these novels for the class:
- Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli
- Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred D Taylor
- Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt
